After investigating PTLD's apartment, Detectives Pig and Mike discovered a letter left by PTLD asking for forgiveness after committing, or rather planning on committing, some sort of act. They also found a threatening note that was left in PTLD's apartment after an apparent burglary. Armed with these clues, the detectives return to the station, where Chief Tupar, Dr. C.L., and Officer Cowhat are waiting for them.
- The detectives show the group what they found.
Cowhat: What...what does this mean?
Pig: It means that PTLD found something and dug into it. It's what he was doing before he died, and it's probably what got him killed.
Mike: Yo, C.L.! How did the fingerprint dustings go?
C.L.: Well, whoever it was doesn't seem to be in the paper logs, so we're scanning it in to the computer to see who it is. It should be done in about 20 minutes.
Pig: ...and the phone search?
Tupar: We found a text argument between PTLD and an unrecognized phone number. The number wasn't in his contacts, but he obviously knew the person since he never made any inquiries about the identity, and he seemed to understand the situation perfectly.
Mike:...and that situation was?
Cowhat: Apparently a deal was made...a serious deal. Just take a look.
- The following dialogue is read from the texts
???: Where is the stuff?
PTLD: I haven't got enough yet, just be patient.
???: I'VE BEEN PATIENT FOR THE LAST WEEK, YOU KNOW FULL WELL THIS IS A PAINFUL ADDICTION.
PTLD: Calm down, please! I've almost got it!
???: YOU SHOULD HAVE HAD IT A FEW HOURS AFTER THE MISSION WAS DONE! I GOT MIXED UP IN THIS BULLCRAP FOR YOU! HECK, I ALMOST GOT KILLED. YOU HAD BETTER FULFILL YOUR END OF THE DEAL.
PTLD: Alright, fine! Geesh! I'll get what I need and give it to you tonight, tomorrow afternoon at the latest.
???: You better. I don't want to hurt you, I swear I don't, but you know how I blank out from withdrawl. I might do something that I'll regret.
PTLD: ..yeah, I know. I'll give it to you. Also, thank you. Seriously. What you did and gave me will make this thing a whole lot easier.
???: ...look, I don't wanna get mixed up in it. I didn't see too much, but from what I did, it looked pretty serious. You should go to the police.
PTLD: Don't worry, I'll make sure you don't get involved. And I'm afraid I can't, I can't risk any of my friends getting hurt. You doing what you did was a last resort. Other than that, I have to do this alone.
???:...alright....look, I gotta go man. Tonight or tomorrow afternoon. No excuses.
PTLD: See ya, bro. I'll do my best.
- The texts end there.
Mike: So, what exactly are we talking here? Money? Drugs?
Pig: Doesn't matter, if it's money we'll ignore it and if it's drugs we'll just follow substance possession protocol. What we should be asking is...who is this contact and what did they do?
Tupar: Good thinking. We'll track the phone number, and you two plus Officer Cowhat can investigate.
- A gunshot is heard
Pig: WHAT THE HECK!?
- everyone draws their weapons
C.L.: That sounds like it came from the forensics lab!
- everyone runs in there, the window is open and a car is driving away really fast. An officer is standing in there with his gun drawn.
Tupar: What happened!?
Random Officer: I fired my weapon at an intruder, sir! He just escaped!
Mike: Hey, where are the fingerprint dustings?
C.L.: Crap, crap, crap! They've been stolen!
Cowhat: Guys, look! There's a note!
- Cowhat picks up the note and reads it aloud
Tsk, tsk, tsk. I was afraid this would happen. You've become a part of this, at least you're trying to. While I do enjoy a nice multiplayer game, I'm afraid this is too important to have any risk of losing. Assuming you've found the note I left in PTLD's apartment, I've used the same hacking and theft strategy to make sure you don't get close. The scanning wasn't complete, so don't bother checking for results. I know this seems bold talking this way to police, but I'll just go ahead and say it: close the case and forget this ever happened. Stay out of this, TWPD, or I'll be forced to hurt someone else, maybe even one of you.
Tread carefully, officers. Thank you for reading this sincere warning."
Pig: ....we better trace that phone number and see what's up. We've got eachothers' backs. No matter who or what threatens us, we don't give up.
Tupar: Right you are. C.L., forget the fingerprints for now, get to tracing the phone number. Officer Cowhat, detectives, go take 5, but be ready to investigate the location of the caller.
Mike: Yes, sir!
Cowhat:....I won't lie...I'm scared...I mean I have my training and all but...
Pig: *hugs cowhat* It's okay, buddy. If someone wants to hurt you, they're gonna have to go through us.
Mike: Plus, just because you're scared doesn't mean you're not strong. Besides, we'll get doughnuts on the way back. How does that sound?
C.L.: Number was easy to trace, I have an address ready.
Tupar: Detectives? Officer?
- Pig, Mike, and Cowhat head to the squad car
